The First Baby Study

The First Baby Study is a five-year study of 3,006 women in Pennsylvania having their first baby. The specific aims of the study are to:

  • Measure women’s childbearing plans prior to their first live birth and attitudes and expectations of childbirth and the delivery process.
  • Describe the delivery experience of first time mothers.
  • Measure factors associated with subsequent conception and childbearing over the course of the first five years after delivery of the first child.

The purpose of this site is to provide study participants and others interested in this research with easy access to study findings. This project is supported by grant number R01 HD052990 from the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health & Human Development, National Institutes of Health.
